Vocational Nursing
The purpose of the Vocational Nursing degree and certificate programs is to prepare an entry-level vocational nurse competent to practice under the guidance of a registered nurse or licensed physician/dentist in a variety of structured institutional and community settings. The program develops a nurse who is able to provide nursing care for clients who are experiencing common, well-defined health problems. It provides a foundation for continued acquisition and utilization of knowledge necessary for success of the student as a vocational nurse and as an individual. Employment opportunities for graduates include positions in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, doctor's offices, clinics, correctional facilities, and home health agencies.
The proposed Vocational Nursing program on the San Leandro campus is seeking approval and accreditation from the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Once approved, students may start the program. Initial program accreditation will be awarded upon successful completion of a site visit and graduation of the first class of VN students.
